Your Rights

You have the right to be treated with fairness, truthfulness, dignity, and respect!

Being in debt is no fun. No one wants to fall behind on their bills. And creditors and debt collectors can be very persistent in trying to get you to pay, even threatening, even when you have no means to pay, and even when the debt was never yours to begin with.

It does not matter whether you owe any money on the account being collected. A collector may not treat you unfairly, deceitfully, without dignity, or with disrespect!

If a debt collector treats you in this manner, you likely have a cause of action against them.

The FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692 et seq.) is a pro-job, pro-family, pro-privacy, pro-fair business competition, and anti-bankruptcy law. It was passed by Congress, to ensure your rights as a consumer are protected and that debt collectors play honestly by the rules.

Under the FDCPA, a debt collector who violates your rights is liable to pay you up to $1,000.00 in statutory damages, your actual damages, your attorney’s fees, and court costs.
